Expand Help/Faq

Quick Tips

  • Set up your office tipping competition with TAB Sportsbet Footy Tipping or compete against your mates;
  • Create or join up to five private or public leagues with your single entry. Invite friends, colleagues and relatives to join;
  • Play in your very own private game with its own ladder and rankings, in addition to the overall, all-in competition.
  • If you registered via your local TAB Agency, then you'll be competing with the other tippers at that Agency;

Mini Leagues competitions

  • You can create or join, and be a part of up to FIVE private or public mini-leagues with your single entry. Your entry will be entered in at least one private or public mini-league.
  • Note that if registered with a TAB Agency code, you'll be entered in your local TAB Agency's league instead - and you'll compete for any agency prizes in your Agency League (where prizes have been made available).
  • You can compete direct against friends and relatives, or a small group of other participants in the competition.
  • Through the unique 'Tipper's Chat Box' feature, you'll be able to communicate with your league of competitors live.
  • You can create and monitor your own league with friends, join a second league that you've been invited to by work colleagues, and play against family members independently.

Unlimited size leagues

  • There are no limits as to how many entries can be a part of a tipping league.
  • ALL private and public leagues that don't have at least 3 entries at the conclusion and publishing of the next upcoming round's results, will be merged or have entries added to form leagues of 16.
  • Any existing entries within each league will remain in that league. All leagues must be formed prior to the beginning of the next upcoming round to avoid being merged or have other entries added.
  • You can leave/change between leagues at any time.

Public Leagues

  • Creating a public league will allow you to invite anyone you like to your league.
  • Anyone who joins your league or obtains your unique league code will also have the ability to join and invite others to this league.
  • If you selected to join a public league, your entry will be placed in one automatically, at the completion of the next upcoming round, with publishing of results.

Private Leagues

  • If you create a private league, you'll be the only one who can invite others to this league (via the League page).
  • As 'Administrator', you'll also have the ability to REMOVE tippers from your league.
  • Anyone joining a Private league is not able to invite others via the league page.

  • When using the automated league invite form on your league page to send invitations, your friends/relatives will be provided with a direct link to the registration page, and will be added to your league automatically upon successful registration. You can leave/change between leagues at any time, by using the facilities available on your league page.
Leagues FAQs.

Q: How I do create an office comp, or a group where I can compete against my friends? A: If you've been invited to join a group by a friend or relative, please use the information that was emailed to you to join that league. If not, you will be given the option to create your own league and invite other friends and relatives to join your league, on registration. You can be a part of up to five leagues.

Q: I've found out that all of my friends are in another league. How do I swap leagues so I can play against them? Can you move my entry for me? A: You can swap leagues on the League page by clicking on the 'CREATE/JOIN' (to join an additional league) or 'LEAVE' (leave your current league and join the new one) buttons and entering the desired League Code in the box provided on your league page, at any time.

Q: How do I enter a new public league? A: To enter a new public league, you will need to create one. In your Leagues page, simply click on the 'CREATE/JOIN' button and follow the instructions. That league will then be merged with other teams after the publishing of the next round's results.

Q: How do I leave a league? A: In your Leagues page, simply click on the 'LEAVE' button to leave a league. Please note, you must be in at least one league.

Q: Why can't I invite people into my league? A: If you have been invited into a Private League, then only the league's creator has the ability to invite more people into that league from their Leagues page.

Q: Can I remove people from my league? A: If you are a Private League creator, you will have the option to remove people from your league.

Q: Do I win a prize for coming first in my private/public league? A: No. Unfortunately due to the enormous amount of users/leagues in the competition, it is virtually impossible to organise and award prizes to winners in each league.

Q: Can I change the name of the league that I created? A: Your league name is a unique identifier in the game and can only be changed prior to your league's first round of play.

Q: The league that I was in is now different, or its name changed... Why? A: We may add entries, or merge leagues where they do not attract enough competitors. All care will be taken to ensure that all original entries that you had in your league will still be there, in addition to new ones. Your league name may therefore change based on these movements.

Q: I just joined. Why wasn't I added to a league, and where is the option to create one? A: Everyone who signs up for TAB Sportsbet Footy Tipping will be a part of a league. Look for the "Leagues" link and button in the menu bar on the left to access your leagues.

5. Entering tips

    5.1 Tipping Weeks
    The Promotion will contain 23 separate weeks for submitting tips (each a Tipping Week(s)) corresponding to the 23 weeks of matches of the 2012 AFL home and away season, excluding any finals matches (known as the Regular Season).
    5.2 Weekly Tipping
    Players must select both:
      (a) the winning team for each match in a Tipping Week before the Deadline (see clause below for definition of "Deadline") for the Tipping Week in question; and
      (b) the difference between the final scores (the Margin) of their tipped winning team and the other team playing the nominated match (known as the Margin Match) in the free text box next to that match before the Deadline for the Tipping Week in question.
    The Margin will be used as a tie-breaker should more than one Player be ranked equally based on Correct Tips. The cumulative Margin Score for a Player is the total of all Margin Scores awarded for that Player for all completed Tipping Weeks to date. The lowest
    Margin Score / cumulative Margin Score is ranked highest. The "Margin Score" is calculated for each Tipping Week based on the difference between the submitted Margin and the actual result. For example, if a Player tips a team to win by a Margin of 10 points and the actual result is a win by 5 points, the Margin Score awarded will be 5 points. However, if a team is tipped to win by a Margin of 10 points and the team loses by 5 points, the Margin Score awarded is 15 points.
    5.3 Tipping Week Deadline
      (a) The weeks of matches for the Regular Season are set out on "Tipping pages" of the Website. Any postponed, rescheduled or delayed matches will have their match times updated during the season to become part of the next appropriate Tipping Week in which the match will be played.
      (b) The deadline for each Tipping Week (the Deadline) will be specified on the "My Tips" page on the Competition Website. Unless otherwise specified, Players can enter their tip for a match up to the start of that match in every Tipping Week.
      (c) Where tips are being entered directly into the Website by a Player, tips can be submitted or changed up until the start of each match.
6. Scoring

    6.1 Players will be awarded points in each Tipping Week based on the selections they have made as follows:
Point Scoring - Tipping
Stat Description Points Awarded
Correct TipThe number of points awarded will be equal to the dollar value of the final TAB Sportsbet fixed odds price at kick off. E.g. if the team selected was priced at $2.45, the Player would receive 2.45 points
Incorrect Tip0 Points
Drawn MatchThe number of points awarded to all Players will be equal to the dollar value of the final TAB Sportsbet fixed odds price at kick off of the lower price team. E.g. if the two teams were priced at $1.50 and $1.80 respectively, the Player would receive 1.50 points
Bonus for correctly tipping ALL winners in a Tipping Week 5 Points
Non-submission of tips for any given match or Tipping Week The number of points awarded will be equal to the dollar value of the final TAB Sportsbet fixed odds price at kick off for the lower price team for each match where tips are not submitted, capped at a maximum of 7 points per Tipping Week
Correct Margin Bonus There is no points bonus for correctly picking the Margin. The Margin is only relevant in the event of a tie-breaker
Non-submission of Margin Prediction The average Margin Score for the Tipping Week amongst all other Players will be awarded (the "Average Margin Score"). The average is based on all Margin Scores recorded from all Players in that Tipping Week
Late Entry during Regular Season The number of points awarded will be equal to the dollar value of the final TAB Sportsbet fixed odds price at kick off for the lower price team for Tipping Week missed by the Player, capped at a maximum of 7 points per Tipping Week. The Player will be awarded the Average Margin Score for each previously completed Tipping Week before the Player completed the Registration Process.
How we use your Margin Prediction The Margin Prediction is used as a tie-breaker, should more than one entry be ranked equally based on Correct Tips. The cumulative Margin Score for a participant is the total of all Margin Scores awarded for all completed Rounds to date. The lowest Margin Score and Cumulative Margin Score is ranked highest. Ranking of participants from the last Round completed will appear on this website.
    For entries received after the first Tipping Week has been completed, Players will be awarded a score for each Tipping Week missed. The score a Player receives for each Tipping Week missed will be calculated in accordance with the "Non-submission of tips for any given match or Tipping Week" and "Nonsubmission of Margin prediction" formulas set out above.
7. Prizes

    7.1 General
    All prizes awarded in this Promotion are, where relevant, to be collectively referred to as "Prizes".
    7.2 Overall AFL Tipping Competition Prizes
      (a) Prize Determinations
        (i) At the completion of the Regular Season, the Player with the overall highest number of total points in the AFL Tipping Competition will be deemed the "Major Prize Winner". In the event two or more Players have the same number of total points, the following tiebreakers will be used, in order, to determine the Major Prize Winner:
          (A) the Major Prize Winner will be the Player with the lowest cumulative Margin Score for the Regular Season;
          (B) if a further tiebreaker is necessary, the Major Prize Winner will be the Player with the lowest Margin Score for the last Tipping Week of the Regular Season; and
          (C) if a further tiebreaker is necessary, the Player who completed the Registration Process the earliest in time will be the Major Prize Winner.
        (ii) The Major Prize determination will take place at 10:00 AM (AEST) on Wednesday 5 September 2012 at the Promoter's NSW office located at 495 Harris Street, Ultimo, NSW (the Major Prize Determination).
        (iii) In addition to the Major Prize, runner-up prizes will be awarded to the Players that finish in second (2nd) to fiftieth (50th) place (in terms of overall points scored).
        (iv) In the event that there is a tie for any position, the tiebreakers set out above will be applied to determine which Player finishes higher.
        (v) The Prizes to be awarded are set out in clause 7.2(b) below.
      (b) Overall Prizes
        (i) 1st Place – the Major Prize
          · $25,000 cash payable by cheque;
          · access and tickets to the catered Tabcorp Suite at the MCG for the AFL Grand Final for 18 people; and
          · A chance at winning $250,000. The Major Prize Winner will win an additional $250,000 (cash payable by cheque) if they select the winning team in each of the nine (9) AFL finals matches (including the Grand Final). For the avoidance of doubt, if any of the Major Prize
          Winner's selections do not win, the Major Prize Winner will not win the $250,000 or any additional prize. The Major Prize Winner will be required to provide their tips for each weekend of the finals, with a representative of the Promoter by 2pm on the Friday of the finals weekend. The Promoter will publish the Major Prize Winners' selections on tab.com.au.
        (ii) 2nd place Prize - $10,000 cash payable by cheque.
        (iii) 3rd place Prize - $5,000 cash payable by cheque.
        (iv) 4th and 5th place Prize - $2,500 cash payable by cheque.

        (vi) 11th – 50th place Prize - $100 free bet.
    7.3 Weekly Prizes
      (a) Weekly Prize
        (i) The Players (each a Weekly Winner) who receive the highest score in each Tipping Week will win two (2) tickets to the 2012 AFL Grand Final (tickets do not include transport costs to or from the 2012 AFL Grand Final) (the Weekly Prize).
        (ii) In the event that more than one Player receives the exact same score, the Weekly Winner will be the Player who has selected the Margin equal to or closest to the actual Margin of the Margin Match of the relevant Tipping Week. In the event that there is still a tie between Players, the Weekly winner will be the Player with the lowest total cumulative Margin for the Regular Season up until that particular week. In the event that there is still a tie, the Player who completed the Registration Process first in time will be declared the Weekly Winner.
        (iii) If a Player is, at the time of winning the Weekly Prize, a TAB Number 1 Club member, they will also receive one thousand (1000) Number 1 Club Reward Points as part of their Weekly Prize.
